Home Stock A Very Small George II Oak Welsh Cupboard

A Very Small George II Oak Welsh Cupboard

The overhanging cornice, above a pair of opening doors, with exceptionally well-shaped raised upper panels, over smaller horizontal panels. The base containing a pair of opening drawers, which again have raised panel fronts.

The joiner, or cabinet maker, must have taken a great joy in this type of construction as both ends of the cupboard have three panels set vertically. This is one of the smallest standing cupboards I have had – and is now fitted with a central rail for use as a wardrobe, ideal for a small cottage.

Rich, dark colour and patina, very typical of furniture found on the Shropshire/Welsh borders.

Montgomeryshire, circa 1740.

Width 56 inches, depth 23 inches, height 60 inches.

Ref 318
